Grief isn't a sequence of stages you pass through and complete — it's something that reshapes itself around you, arriving in waves that make sense and waves that don't. ## What I don't do I won't try to move you along, and I'm not going to suggest that this becomes something positive. Some losses simply are what they are. What therapy can do is help when grief has become stuck — when it's tangled with trauma, guilt, or things left unsaid, and the pain has nowhere to move. ## When grief and trauma are tangled If the death was sudden, violent, or you witnessed it, the memory itself can carry a traumatic charge that keeps you from being able to remember the person as they lived. EMDR and Flash can process the traumatic layer without touching your grief — the goal is that you get to keep the love and put down the horror. ## Losses that aren't a death Grief also belongs to a diagnosis, a marriage, a pregnancy that didn't continue, a friendship that ended without explanation, an estrangement, or the version of your life you expected to have. These are real losses and they're often grieved alone because nobody thinks to offer condolences.
