Reasons to Say No to Plans

Do you frequently find that you’re scheduled to do something, and you wish you weren’t? If so, you are definitely not alone. Many people I talk to reveal that they are over-committed, both socially and otherwise.

Take some time before one of these plans happens, and ask yourself if any of the following are true.

Are some of these your REASONS TO SAY ‘NO’? :

  • you don't want to go

  • you never get time to yourself, and this is your opportunity

  • you have a long to-do list you actually feel like tackling!

  • you’d feel much calmer if you cleaned the house

  • you could watch that movie you’ve been dying to see!

  • you’re overwhelmed and need a nap

  • you’re already volunteering at school/work/etc.

  • you haven’t spent any special time w/your child, spouse, etc. in quite a while

If you said yes to any of the above questions, try to plan some time with your schedule and evaluate everything on it in the same way. Would you be happier afterwards if you’d had that time to yourself? To your family, spouse, or close friend?
